Fleet Services’ mission is to maintain and dispatch safe, reliable and appropriate vehicles and equipment for City departments in the most cost efficient manner possible, by focusing on the customer’s needs for equipment necessary to provide services critical to the safety of the community and maintenance and improvement of City assets.

Services

Activities to Fulfill Mission
  • Maintenance – Provides maintenance for approximately 10,670 units, used by 24 City Departments as well as Mayor and Council Offices, which consist of automobiles, light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, motor sweepers, refuse collection vehicles, construction equipment, a diverse fleet of off-road equipment, and provides aircraft support to LAPD, LAFD and DWP. The Maintenance operation consists of a total of 43 repair facilities located throughout the Metropolitan area, San Fernando Valley and San Pedro. Services departments such as Public Works Sanitation, Public Works Street Lighting, Public Works Street Services, Department of Transportation, and the Department of Recreation and Parks.
  • Vehicle Replacement Program – Provides written specifications while working directly with equipment manufacturers, City vendors and our customers to purchase and salvage of vehicles and equipment.
  • Motor Pool – Manages four motor pool operations of light duty vehicles and heavy equipment that provides 24/7, 365-day support to elected officials, executive staff and for general City operations.

Area 1
Consists of 15 Repair Facilities
Responsible for the maintenance and support of the City’s Refuse Collection Vehicle Fleet (RCV’s),Green Waste Processing Equipment, Transfer Station Equipment and Street Sweepers.

Area 2
Consists of 25 Repair Facilities and 1 Heavy Equipment Motor Pool
Responsible for the maintenance and support of the fleets Construction Equipment, Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks and Trailers, Sedans, Generators, DOT Parking Enforcement Vehicles, Turf and Off Road Equipment.

Area 3
Consists of 1 Tire Shop,1 Body Shop, 2 Motor Pools, Technical Services and Training and Safety
Responsible for maintaining and providing tire repair and replacement as well as auto body repair for all equipment maintained by Fleet. Operates three Motor Pool locations that provide temporary use of pool vehicles to City employees. Technical Services, is in charge of replacing and purchasing all equipment maintained by Fleet Services. Training and Safety is in charge of providing innovative classroom and hands on training to Fleet Staff to increase knowledge and safety.

Heliport
In charge of the maintenance and support of a fleet of LAPD, LAFD & DWP aircrafts.

Heliport

Mission Statement

Fleet Technical Services provides fleet equipment purchase support to City department customers and Vehicle Management System technical support to fleet repair shops. Service to City departments is provided through technical specification development, timely procurement of fleet equipment, and research into alternative fuel and new fleet technology. Fleet Technical Services strives to give its customers the ability to operate their fleet equipment safely, cost effectively and in an environmentally sound manner.

Motor Pool

City Hall East Garage, City Hall Executive Pool and Broadway Building Motor Pool provide temporary use of pool vehicles to all Council-controlled City departments; supplies driver services for parade car to elected officials during special events, offers non-repair vehicle maintenance services which includes washing, waxing, and refueling of pool vehicles as well as facilitates maintenance at Central Repair Shop. Primary contact for emergency breakdowns during off hours for elected officials.

Heavy Equipment Motor Pool provides all Council-controlled City departments with access to heavy duty equipment (pavers, skid steers, heavy duty trucks etc.) on a temporary basis to assist them with projects that are temporary in nature.

EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE:
If emergency road service is required on a pool vehicle, contact the 3-1-1 Call Center at 3-1-1 from a centrex line or Citywide or 213-978-3231 from the greater Los Angeles area.

PROCEDURE FOR REQUESTING MOTOR POOL VEHICLE:
To request a pool vehicle, submit a trip Card (Form GS/FS 317) with the appropriate authorized signature, to the Dispatcher the day the car is required. The driver must provide a valid California driver’s license and a current City ID. Departmental requests for pool vehicles on a permanent basis must be made through the Department’s budgetary process. All requests for driver services must be in writing to the General Manager, Department of General Services.

Training, Safety and Compliance Section

The Training, Safety, and Compliance section is a specialized unit providing support to the Division of Fleet Services. The health and safety of our employees is paramount. We are privileged to manage the Fleet Services Safety program. We also provide high quality innovative training designed to provide maximum benefit to our employees. Additionally, we make every effort to ensure the Division remains in compliance with Federal, State, and local workplace safety and environmental regulations.

We deliver training to Fleet Services personnel on-site as well as in our Fleet Services Training Center. The Training Center, located at 2300 E. 7th Street in Los Angeles, is available for use by all Divisions, and can accommodate up to 100 people in a spacious 2100 square foot classroom. A built in retractable divider allows the space to be divided into two smaller classrooms that will permit simultaneous use. Classroom “A” can accommodate 30 students and Classroom “B” can accommodate 60 students. The Center also has a large open “shop area” to conduct hands-on industrial training.
